Businessman charged with defrauding Pennsylvania's unemployment compensation fund

PHILADELPHIA — A Warrington man was sentenced Wednesday for wire fraud in connection with the Pennsylvania unemployment compensation fund following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Philadelphia. The United States Department of Labor's Office of Inspector General and the U.S. Department of State also assisted in the investigation.

Mark Stein, 48, was sentenced to four months in prison, a $10,000 fine and three years of supervised release for five counts of wire fraud in connection with fraud on the unemployment compensation fund. Stein is the CEO of Land Tech Enterprises, a landscaping company in Bucks County.

Stein solicited company employees to apply for and fraudulently collect Pennsylvania unemployment compensation while continuing to work full time for the company. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was defrauded of at least $43,589 between June 2010 and May 2011.
