ICE ERO Boston removes foreign fugitive gang member felon wanted in Mexico for kidnapping

BOSTON, Massachusetts — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston Field Office deportation officers removed a noncitizen foreign fugitive and identified gang member convicted in U.S. federal court of narcotics distribution and currently wanted on kidnapping charges by law enforcement authorities in Mexico on March 1.

Mexican national Jose Manuel Rodriguez-Hermosillo, 39, was previously returned to Mexico from the United States and later unlawfully re-entered the country, was removed to Mexico and turned over to Mexican law enforcement authorities by ERO Boston deportation officers on March 1.

“This removal highlights the outstanding work that ICE officers do every day to prevent foreign criminal fugitives from evading justice in their home country.” said Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director for ERO Boston. “The tireless efforts of Boston ERO officers and our key law enforcement partners, both domestic and international, guaranteed this dangerous fugitive would face the consequences of his actions.”

After having been apprehended and returned to Mexico by the U.S. Border Patrol in 2003, Rodriguez, who has been identified as a member of the Sureños Mexican criminal gang organization, subsequently re-entered the U.S. illegally. In September 2019, Rodriguez was convicted in the U.S Eastern District Court of California in Sacramento, CA on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, for which the court sentenced him to serve five years and three months in federal prison. On October 29, 2021, the Federal Correctional Institution, in Danbury, CT, released Rodriguez to ERO Boston custody pursuant to a previously lodged detainer.

Rodriguez was ordered removed to Mexico by an immigration judge with the Executive Office for Immigration Review in Boston in January 2022. On March 1, 2022, ERO deported Rodriguez from the U.S. and turned him over to the custody of Mexican authorities for prosecution.

ICE focuses its civil immigration enforcement priorities on the apprehension and removal of noncitizens who pose a threat to our national security, public safety, and border security
