ICE Special Agent makes appearance on CNBC’s American Greed

On Thursday, March 5, CNBC aired an episode of American Greed, highlighting the story of Jordan Belfort, the former stock broker and inspiration behind the 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

In addition to telling the story of the rise and fall of Belfort and his sex and drug-filled brokerage firm, the show featured U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Special Agent in Charge David Marwell, who discussed the role U.S. Customs Service (USCS) played in the investigation and subsequent arrest of Belfort. After 9/11, USCS was reorganized to form ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Many special agents from the USCS and the FBI worked closely with assistant U.S. Attorneys which resulted in convicting Belfort and his numerous co-conspirators,” said Marwell. “This investigation acted as the model for future money laundering operations throughout the United States.”
