Italian citizen sentenced to 6 months in prison for disrupting a flight

PHILADELPHIA — A man from Italy pleaded guilty and was sentenced Thursday to six months in prison. The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The FBI, the Philadelphia Police Department and the Tinicum Township Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Massmio Fiorani, 35, of Italy, interfered with the duties of flight crew members and attendants onboard a U.S. Airways flight from Barcelona to Philadelphia Aug. 7.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle ordered Fiorani to pay $25,000 in restitution to U.S. Airways.

Following his release from prison, Fiorani will be turned over to ICE for removal proceedings.
