Convicted felon facing federal charges for illegally re-entering US

HARRISBURG – A Honduran felon who was recently convicted of assault in Central Pennsylvania is now facing federal charges for illegally re-entering the United States after having previously being deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

The federal grand jury in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania indicted Jose Ramos, 33, Wednesday and charged him with being a previously convicted of an aggravated felon offence and being deported from the United States in 2010.

Ramos entered the United States illegally at an unknown time and acquired a lengthy criminal history including convictions in the Washington, D.C. area in 2008 and 2009 for possessing and selling cocaine, grand larceny, auto theft, and a conviction in August 2015 for assault in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

ICE ERO Philadelphia will take steps to once again remove him from the United States after the criminal prosecution is complete.

Prosecution has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Clancy.

The maximum penalty under federal law is 20 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
