ERO Los Angeles removes Guatemalan national wanted for rape and violent abuse in his home country

Barrientos was removed to Guatemala, where he was turned over to the proper authorities to face justice.

LOS ANGELES — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Los Angeles removed Dany Barrientos, a 40-year-old Guatemalan national wanted for rape and violent abuse in Guatemala, June 14. Barrientos was removed to Guatemala, where he was turned over to the proper authorities to face justice.

“This individual is accused of committing serious crimes in his home country and fleeing to the U.S. to avoid justice,” said ERO Los Angeles Field Office Director Thomas Giles. “His removal ensures he will be held accountable for his actions and takes a potential violent predator off our streets.”

Barriento entered the United States without being inspected or paroled by an immigration officer. U.S. Border Patrol arrested him near Hidalgo, Texas on May 13 and served him with a notice and order of expedited removal. Officials transferred him to the Los Angeles area to coordinate his travel documents for removal.

As one of ICE’s three operational directorates, ERO is the principal federal law enforcement authority in charge of domestic immigration enforcement. ERO’s mission is to protect the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of U.S. communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws, and its primary areas of focus are interior enforcement operations, management of the agency’s detained and non-detained populations, and repatriation of noncitizens who have received final orders of removal. ERO’s workforce consists of more than 7,700 law enforcement and non-law enforcement support personnel across 25 domestic field offices and 208 locations nationwide, 30 overseas postings, and multiple temporary duty travel assignments along the border.

In addition to its core interior enforcement mission, ERO also supports broader DHS efforts to manage irregular migration at the Southwest Border. During the last two years, ERO has provided logistical support for DHS enterprise operations at the border and has assumed critical duties related to increased irregular migration, including case processing and case management for recent border crossers, domestic ground transportation and repatriation flights.
