ERO Los Angeles removes Romanian national wanted in home country for human trafficking
LOS ANGELES — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Los Angeles field office removed a Romanian national wanted in his home country for involvement in human trafficking.
Marius Caldararu, 25, was removed to Romania on Dec. 12 and turned over to proper authorities to face related charges.
"This individual is accused of serious crimes and will now face justice in his home country," said ERO Los Angeles Field Office Director Thomas Giles. "His removal not only holds him accountable for his alleged crimes, but also removes a threat from our streets."
Caldararu entered the United States at an unknown date and location without being inspected or paroled by an immigration officer. ERO arrested him Oct. 11, 2023, in a targeted enforcement action in North Hollywood.
As one of ICE’s three operational directorates, ERO is the principal federal law enforcement authority in charge of domestic immigration enforcement. ERO's mission is to protect the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of U.S. communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws, and its primary areas of focus are interior enforcement operations, management of the agency's detained and non-detained populations, and repatriation of noncitizens who have received final orders of removal. ERO's workforce consists of more than 7,700 law enforcement and non-law enforcement support personnel across 25 domestic field offices and 208 locations nationwide, 30 overseas postings, and multiple temporary duty travel assignments along the border.
In addition to its core interior enforcement mission, ERO also supports broader DHS efforts to manage irregular migration at the Southwest Border. During the last two years, ERO has provided logistical support for DHS enterprise operations at the border and has assumed critical duties related to increased irregular migration, including case processing and case management for recent border crossers, domestic ground transportation and repatriation flights.
