ERO Philadelphia removes Brazilian wanted for homicide to Brazil
PHILADELPHIA – Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia removed Wederson Fernandes Da Silva, a citizen of Brazil with a final order of removal, to Brazil on Jan. 10. Fernandes is a foreign fugitive wanted by law enforcement authorities in Brazil to serve his sentence for intentional homicide and attempted homicide.
"The removal of Wederson Fernandes Da Silva highlights the collaboration between ERO and our international partner law enforcement agencies in ensuring that individuals who commit heinous crimes are brought to justice,” said ERO Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane. “Our commitment to public safety and the enforcement of our immigration laws remains unwavering as we continue to protect our communities from those who pose a threat."
Fernandes entered the United States without admission by an immigration official on an unknown date and at an unknown location.
A court in Brazil convicted Fernandes of intentional homicide and attempted homicide on Aug. 2, 2010, and he was sentenced to 13 years’ incarceration. Authorities in Brazil issued an arrest warrant for him on Sep. 24, 2018.
ERO Newark arrested Fernandes in Newark, New Jersey during a targeted enforcement action and detained him at the Elizabeth Contract Detention Facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey on March 19, 2024. ERO Newark served him on the same date with a Notice to Appear before an immigration judge charging inadmissibility pursuant to Section 212 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Fernandes was transferred by ERO Newark the next day to ERO Philadelphia at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, where he remained in ICE custody through removal proceedings.
He was ordered removed from the U.S. to Brazil by an immigration judge in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on Nov. 13, 2024.
