ICE detainee passes away at Utah hospital

SALT LAKE CITY - A Bosnian national woman in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) passed away Sunday night at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, of an apparent heart attack.

On Feb. 1, Amra Miletic was arrested by ICE and had been detained at the Weber County Jail while going through removal proceedings.

The 47-year-old was rushed to McKay Dee Hospital Sunday night after being found unconscious in her cell at the Weber County Jail. A U.S. permanent resident, Miletic was facing deportation due to her criminal history, which included prior convictions for possessing cocaine and obstructing justice.

The Salt Lake County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy Monday to determine the cause of death. Consistent with ICE protocol, the appropriate state health and local law enforcement agencies have been informed. ICE also notified the Bosnian consulate, and consular representatives contacted Miletic's next of kin.

Miletic is the seventh detainee to pass away in ICE custody in fiscal year 2011.
