ICE HSI Tampa supports area schools during Great American Teach In
TAMPA, Fla. – Hundreds of children in the Tampa Bay area learned more about the role of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) during the Great American Teach-In this week.
"It’s inspiring for the children to see that there are so many possibilities in their future,” said Tami Wesner, a fourth-grade teacher at Lutz Preparatory School. “And while it’s neat to see what other children’ parents do, it is also very comforting knowing there are people working every day to protect them."
Many team members from the Tampa HSI office spoke at area schools, including special agents talking about child exploitation and the Special Response Team (SRT).
The purpose of the Teach-In is to encourage employees, businesses, community leaders, sports figures, local personalities, retirees, community volunteers and parents to become involved in education by sharing what they know with a new generation. The adults visit the classroom and talk with students about work, career challenges, hobbies and life experiences. They provide real life insights into work and careers and reinforce the importance of education for success in any occupation.
