ICE recognizes FLETA Board’s 20th anniversary

WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recognized the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board on its 20th anniversary, Nov. 3.

FLETA plays a critical role in supporting the training of federal law enforcement officers, agents, and other personnel.

ICE currently has four training organizations participating in FLETA accreditation: the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) academies in Glynco, Georgia; the HSI Intelligence Training Academy in Washington, DC; and the Office of Leadership and Career Development (OLCD) in Dallas, Texas and Washington, DC.

Among those, the ERO and HSI academies each have one program that attained accreditation respectively in April 2017; the HSI Intelligence Training Academy has a program that attained accreditation in November 2018; and the OLCD has two programs accredited, with the first accreditation granted in April 2011.

All programs received reaccreditation, Nov. 3.

ICE has had representation on the FLETA Board since 2005 and is currently represented by Tracy M. Siler, Assistant Director for ICE OLCD.

“ERO is proud to be a part of the FLETA accreditation process,” said Norma Creech-Gomez, the acting Deputy Assistant Director for the ERO Training Division. “Having accredited programs shows ERO and ICE’s commitment to providing the highest quality training in the ever-evolving federal law enforcement landscape.”

“The FLETA Board and Office of Accreditation is grateful for the participation and support of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the FLETA process,” stated Joseph M. Collins, Executive Director, FLETA Office of Accreditation. “The FLETA accreditation standards and procedures reflect the excellence, competence, and professionalism expected of agencies and training organizations that participate in the process. Through FLETA, training organizations, like the HSI, ERO, and OLCD compare their policies and procedures against the federal standards, as they enhance the quality of training to meet their critical, unique, and ever-changing missions.”

Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board

The FLETA Board is the accrediting body for all federal law enforcement training and support programs. To achieve accreditation, training organizations submit to an independent review of their program and/or academy to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards and Procedures in the areas of administration, training staff, training development, and training delivery. Accreditation is a cyclical process that occurs every five years.
