ICE removes foreign fugitive wanted for fraud in Mexico

Mexican national Rafael Olvera-Amezcua, 64, was taken to the international boundary of the Lincoln/Juarez Bridge in Laredo, Texas where he was handed over to Mexican authorities without incident.

SAN ANTONIO — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) San Antonio Field Office, with assistance from the Harlingen Field Office, removed a noncitizen foreign fugitive Wednesday who is wanted for fraud by the government of Mexico. Mexican national Rafael Olvera-Amezcua, 64, was taken to the international boundary of the Lincoln/Juarez Bridge in Laredo, Texas where he was handed over to Mexican authorities without incident.

On Nov. 8, 2014, Olvera entered the U.S. in Laredo, Texas with an authorized work visa. On Nov. 22, 2016, Mexican officials issued a warrant for his arrest for fraud.

On May 24, 2019, ICE officers arrested Olvera and served him with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.

An immigration judge with the Executive Office for Immigration Review issued a final order of removal for Olvera on Dec. 4, 2019.

Olvera was housed at the South Texas ICE Processing Center in Pearsall, Texas until his removal from the U.S. on March 2.
