ICE removes sexual predator to the United Kingdom
WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) removed a convicted sexual predator Monday who was wanted in the United Kingdom for the sexual assault of a minor.
ERO deportation officers escorted Robert John Dando, a 53-year-old citizen of the United Kingdom, as he departed the United States via a commercial flight from Washington Dulles International Airport to Heathrow Airport in London. Upon arrival in the United Kingdom, ERO deportation officers turned him over to law enforcement authorities there.
“ICE’s unique immigration authorities enabled us to remove Dando and seamlessly transfer him to the custody of a foreign law enforcement agency,” said Russell Hott, field office director for ERO Washington, D.C. “Immigration violators, especially those who prey on vulnerable children, have no place in the United States.”
Dando entered the United States at Washington Dulles International Airport under the Visa Waiver Program in July 2010. That November, he was convicted in Fairfax County Circuit Court on four counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13 years of age and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. In May 2017, the Thames Valley Police Department in the United Kingdom notified ERO Washington, D.C., that Dando was wanted for the sexual assault of a minor. In July 2017, the Virginia Department of Corrections remanded custody of Dando to ERO Washington, D.C, pursuant to an I-247 detainer, and ICE deportation officers served him with a final order of removal.
