Know2Protect, OUR Rescue partner with the American School of Tegucigalpa to educate students in Honduras about online child exploitation and abuse prevention

WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations Tegucigalpa, in collaboration with the ICE HSI Transnational Criminal Investigative Unit and Operation Underground Railroad, delivered a powerful Know2Protect iGuardian presentation, Feb. 20, at the American School of Tegucigalpa in Honduras. The event aimed to educate students, teachers, school administrators, and parents about the dangers of online child exploitation and abuse, and how they can protect themselves and their children from these ever-present online threats.

"Partnering with international communities like the American School of Tegucigalpa is an essential step in creating a safer digital world for children everywhere," said Know2Protect Campaign Director Kate Kennedy. "By empowering students, parents, and educators with the critical knowledge and tools to identify and fight online child exploitation and abuse, we are fortifying a united front against these threats."

The Know2Protect iGuardian presenters delivered three focused briefings tailored to middle and high school students, as well as parents and trusted adults, ultimately reaching over 650 attendees.

During these sessions, participants had the opportunity to speak directly with Homeland Security experts about online safety and gained access to critical resources on how to recognize and prevent online child exploitation, as well as practical tips for securing personal devices and monitoring online activity. These valuable tools equipped the American School of Tegucigalpa community with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect children in the digital space.

“The interactive nature of the presentations kept our students actively involved, and the resources shared align perfectly with our school's mission of ensuring student safety both online and offline,” said American School of Tegucigalpa Superintendent Liliana Jenkins in a letter to presenters. “We truly appreciate how thoughtfully you addressed these important topics and provided practical, accessible information to our families.”

The Know2Protect iGuardian program, delivered by ICE HSI special agents and other subject matter experts, remains an essential resource in the global fight against online child exploitation and abuse.
