Readout from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement meeting with LaSalle Corrections
WASHINGTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement leadership met with LaSalle Corrections officials to discuss operational requirements and the agency’s continuing mission to promote health and welfare in detention facilities. The agency manages administrative custody in one of the most highly transient, diverse populations in the world while ensuring all noncitizens reside in safe, secure and humane environments while in ICE custody.
The agency detains noncitizens who pose threats to public safety and national security, and in some cases, detention is necessary to ensure an individual’s presence for immigration proceedings and removal from the United States. Additionally, U.S. immigration law requires ERO to detain certain noncitizens. Privately owned detention facilities are necessary parts of the nation’s immigration and detention systems.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement engages with stakeholders nationwide, including state, local, tribal and territorial governments, elected officials, law enforcement, the private sector, faith-based organizations, and colleges and universities.
