Readout of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement meeting with private detention vendor

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) leadership met with LaSalle Corrections yesterday as part of ongoing conversations between the agency and private sector partners. As one of the agency’s detention vendors, LaSalle Corrections supports the mission of Enforcement and Removal Operations to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all those in ICE custody. Private sector partner engagements are essential to ensuring understanding of transforming mission requirements and the shared responsibility of appropriate care for those in custody. The use of private detention contractors is a vital piece of the national detention system enabling ICE to execute its mission and LaSalle Corrections continues to be a valued partner in the immigration detention space.

Detention is necessary for a subset of individuals to ensure their presence for immigration proceedings, to facilitate removals to their countries of citizenship, and to protect public safety in cases where a noncitizen’s criminal history may pose a risk to others. In certain cases, ERO is bound by statutory requirements to detain noncitizens in accordance with U.S. immigration laws and manages the administrative custody of one of the most highly transient and diverse populations of any correctional or detention system in the world. The agency leverages a diverse detention network to ensure all noncitizens reside in safe, secure and humane environments during their time in ICE custody.
