The Office of Information Governance and Privacy (OIGP) components include the Performance Management Office, the Privacy Unit and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Unit.
The Performance Management Office (PMO) tracks, reports and aligns all OIGP projects to M&A strategic goals and OIGP’s key mission areas. The PMO utilizes aggressive tracking of unit operations and tactical plans to give leadership timely, forward-looking data that feeds routine decision-making and out-year planning by means of modem reporting tailored to each unit’s operational needs.
The ICE Privacy Unit oversees the implementation of privacy protections and the transparency of government operations while supporting the ICE mission. Privacy is the concept that personal information about individuals should be respected and properly safeguarded as required by federal law and policy.
The ICE Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office enables transparency in accordance with the law and Department of Homeland Security policy by overseeing and managing ICE’s implementation of the FOIA (5 U.S.C. § 552) and responding to individual requests for information under section (d)(1) of the Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a).

What is a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA)?
A PIA is a document that analyzes how personally identifiable information (PII) is collected, maintained, used and disseminated by an ICE program or system as well as the risks associated with the collection of information. What is a System of Records Notice (SORN)?
A SORN is a legally binding public notification identifying and documenting the purpose for a system of records, the individuals covered by the system, the types of records in the system, and how the information is shared. SORNs are required by the Privacy Act of 1974 and are published in the Federal Register to provide the public an opportunity for comment. Does the Privacy Act of 1974 apply to foreign nationals?
As a matter of law, the Privacy Act of 1974 provides statutory privacy rights to U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents. Additionally, the Judicial Redress Act of 2015 extended some Privacy Act protections to certain information pertaining to covered individuals from foreign countries.

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System (ODLS) can be used to locate a detainee who is currently in ICE custody, or who was released from ICE custody for any reason within the last 60 days. See the ODLS page for more information.
