DHS Acting Secretary Elaine Duke visits ICE Buffalo, New York

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Secretary Elaine Duke recently saw firsthand how U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) partners successfully with other federal law enforcement components when she visited Buffalo, New York on June 29.

She began her listening tour by meeting with ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), and Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) personnel in Buffalo. Local ICE leadership briefed Acting Secretary Duke on specifics of the regional mission and challenges.

When informed of the extremely close ties that bind federal agencies in western New York, Acting Secretary Duke expanded the meeting to a Town Hall format that included ICE and its federal law enforcement partners U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian law enforcement. The Acting Secretary encouraged a candid and vigorous discussion about the agency’s mission.

She encouraged leadership to make every effort to work closely with federal, state and local partners to keep America safe.
