ICE conducts training for Colombian National Police Officers

BOGOTA, Columbia — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Office in Bogota gathered over 60 members of the Colombian National Police (CNP) for a new training program focused on issues such as sensitive investigations, corruption, integrity and internal affairs investigative techniques.

The five day training, conducted during the week of June 6-11, was coordinated with the CNP’s Inspector General’s (IG) office. OPR and CNP personnel simultaneously conducted an evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the CNP IG program in order to identify future areas of collaboration and training.

The OPR Assistant Director (AD) traveled to Bogota, Colombia on June 8 for a three day visit. During the visit, the AD visited the Colombian National Police Special Forces School in Tolima and US Embassy Bogota. He met with HSI Bogota personnel and top CNP leadership to include the Director of Colombian National Police General Jorge Nieto. The AD’s trip culminated with him providing closing remarks and graduation certificates to the 62 CNP officers attending the training.

Through its International Operations, HSI has 62 operational attaché offices in 46 countries around the world. HSI special agents work closely with foreign law enforcement agencies on a myriad of transnational criminal investigations.  ICE’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) independently investigates allegations of employee misconduct or serious mismanagement.
